Kono Machi and Ichigo Chips

Ichigo Chips

Yes, it’s been quiet here as we wait patiently for Chitose’s return and of course, our prayers go out to her for a complete recovery. Chitose’s birthday is coming up soon (January 5) and what better early present than having her song “Kono Machi” in the film “Ichigo no Kakera (Ichigo Chips)”. “Ichigo” is based on a manga (see image above) by Tsutomu Takahashi who also penned the popular manga Sky High (which was turned into a film starring gravure idol Yumiko Shaku).

“Kono Machi” also happened to be used for the NHK drama serial “Manten” (much of the series was shot on location in Kagoshima Prefecture) and is one of my favorite songs of hers. “Ichigo Chips”, directed by Shun Nakahara (who also happens to be from Kagoshima Prefecture), will make its theatrical run in Japanese theaters come February 2005.

Hi B, thank you for commenting on the site. Nice story about your having met Chitose in Okinawa. The reason why she's been resting from doing any shows or recordings is because she had a miscarriage (and was recently married at the time too). Although we miss Chitose's music a lot (i.e., new music), we want to do our best to keep her name out there so that she knows that her fans are here supporting her.

What happened to Hajime? I've not been able to follow her much sense I've moved away from Japan. She's awesome live. I saw her perform in a small club in Okinawa In May or June of 2002 before the Wadatsumi no Ki came out. It was great. She was very nice and talked to me for about for a few moments, and didn't say anything about my japanese. Which made me feel pretty cool. I managed to get her to sign a menu from the bar and write out her album titles that were available. It was sooo cute. She seemed embarassed that someone would be moved by her music. Especially a giant gaijin. Anyhow, was she sick?
